Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?
We don’t know for sure, who is the the creator or creators of Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency that changed the course of global finance, but what we do know is that the person who designed Bitcoin was identified under the name of Satoshi Nakamoto, the person who implemented the first Blockchain and deployed the first decentralized cryptocurrency.
In November 2008, this person published an article in the Cryptography Mailing List describing Bitcoin, and he said that he had started writing the code in 2007.
There is a profile in P2P Foundation under the name of Satoshi Nakamoto, indicating that they were born on April 5th, 1975 and that they live in Japan. They also created the forum BitcoinTalk and the first message in 2009 under the name of Satoshi.
Until the middle of 2010 he collaborated with several bitcoin developers and founded Bitcoin.org. Through the bitcoin public transactions registry it is estimated that Nakamoto’s address contains approximately one million bitcoins.
But according to several experts, not many people in the world could be Satoshi Nakamoto, reason why many theories have been speculated since its first apparition in 2007 about the identity of Bitcoin’s father.
For the Nigerian developer Mark Essien, Satoshi must be someone between 35 and 50 years old, who had been active on Usenet, showing interest in HashCash or any other currency platform on the internet from the past, and who had developed a professional software for Windows.
It’s someone who has also shown interest in maths, physics, computational encrypting and algorithms and who has written an important software in the best because surely Bitcoin wasn’t their first hit.
Many name a have popped up while searching the creator or creators of Bitcoin, however, they are all simple hypotheses so far. One of the most common names is the Australian Craig Wright.
“I am the main conceptualizer (of Bitcoin) but others helped me,” revealed the businessman in an exclusive intervies with BBC.
In order to demonstrate that he was in fact the brain behind the virtual currency, Craig presented cryptographic keys of the first transactions made with the currency.
“These are the batches to send 10 bitcoins to Hal Finney in January 2009, the first transaction with bitcoins,” the Australian explained, noting that Finney is one of the engineers and cryptographers who helped him create bitcoin.
However, despite his statements and some evidence presented, it cannot be confirmed that he is indeed Satoshi Nakamoto, as several names continue to ring and with them, proofs that would prove the true identity of this Japanese name, of which we can analyze its etymology.
“Satoshi” means “clear, ingenious, wise thought.”
“Naka” can mean “half, relationship.”
“Moto” can mean “origin or creation.”
We cannot know for sure if they are Japanese or not, not even their sex, age or any other data, we could even be talking about a group of people, instead of a single individual, who is among the 50 richest men in the world with a balance of 1’000,000 bitcoins in his personal account, of which not even one has been touched since the disappearance of the character Satoshi Nakamoto on April 23, 2011.
